Great northern run beginner training advice?

I'm a novice runner and has set a goal of the great northern run 2010 (10km september 2010). I was wondering if people think this is a realistic time limit considering I haven't run for about two years? and also if you have any tips on getting started?Great northern run beginner training advice?
the great north is a half marathon and thats 13.5 miles unless your going for one of the junior races.

if your training for a 10k start out doing 1 mile circuits slow then quicker, then aim for 3 mile circuits then build up to 5. once your happy doing 5 miles try it at speed.

go for race distance (10k if your doing the junior race) but at an easy pace. dont try going hard until race day.
